Healthy, Fun Special Event Ideas
As an APPLE school, Westview is continuing to promote wellness and an environment that fosters lifelong health and wellness. Therefore, with all the special occasions through out the year we are making all efforts towards creating events that still cultivates the values of a healthy lifestyle. “Once and awhile” or “it’s just a treat” adds up!
Children should only have something from the “Choose Least Often” category once a week. We know that isn’t always easy, so we are providing some ideas and alternatives for the traditional choices. We ask that you help us in our efforts and refrain from sending candy, cookies, cupcakes and other sweets; instead, please send healthier items to your child’s classroom celebrations.
Here are some Healthy Ideas for the Classroom Easter Celebration:
Flower Platter: A very easy healthy dish with some carrots, a low fat dip and some celery stalks for the stem.
Carrot Bags: Fill a baggie with goldfish crackers or your favorite orange cracker bite and tie it with a green twist tie.
Watermelon Bunny: Hallow out a watermelon leaving the top for ears and a tail. Fill the watermelon with the cut out pieces along with your other favorite fruits. Use blueberries for the eyes, a carrot for the nose, and watermelon rind for the whiskers.
Bunny Bread Bowl: Using your favorite breads, create the look of a bunny with raisin eyes and nose, and celery strips for the whiskers. Use your favorite low fat dip for the tummy and serve with your favorite veggies.
Easter Skewers: Use cherry tomatoes with soft low fat mozzarella balls (with peppercorn eyes, and carrot beaks) to create a simple healthy treat.
Fruit Basket: Fill a basket with your favorite fruit to create a simple healthy Easter Basket the whole class will love!
Easter Egg Surprise: Fill your Easter eggs with healthy snacks and have a healthy surprise with every bite! Try trading them with your friends to see what healthy snacks you will end up with.
Easter Basket Ideas: This year, instead of handing out the typical chocolate and candy, try handing out these fun ideas below. Kids will appreciate the variety, plus they are inexpensive:
- Temporary tattoos
- Bouncy balls
- Funky pencils or erasers
- Plastic bunnies, eggs, etc…
- Silly bands
- Sidewalk Chalk
- Snack size Gold Fish or Pretzels
- Granola bars
- Cheese Strings
